Joseph and Ellie played outside during the wedding luncheon, which was at a great place looking right on to the beach. Joseph was glad because it was a fun place to play while the grown ups talked and ate inside.
Until "The Fall". . . .This a new face Joseph is sporting an awful lot--scrunched up eyes and nose! Sometimes we can't help but laugh before we kiss it all better. We owe this great picture to Aunt Joanna.

We had a picnic with the Oliphant relatives and friends. It was a beautiful day. Joseph was a little sleepy.
Joseph LOVES Aunt Rachel. When he found out she was over, he did not want to take a nap--he wanted to be in her arms!
Many of the European Embassies opened for a special open house. We had a great time going to several. Here we are outside of the French Embassy.
This is the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates. It was next door to the Austrian Embassy, which we visited, but we wanted a picture in front of this once. However, it seems that we got the fire hydrant as the focus of the picture. I guess you'll just have to trust on that it was a cool building.

A home in the cul-de-sac. I've actually been watering their indoor plants while they've been gone. Wish I could say the indoor ones look as good as the outdoor ones (I haven't touched these beauties).

Joseph is so much fun! Here is his almost 14 month update:
He has two teeth on the bottom (he was toothless until his first birthday)
He has tried a lot of different foods-- but what he really loves to eat: oatmeal, applesauce, brocoli, refried beans, grapes, veggie curry and rice, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, squash, Cheerios, and yogurt. He used to love bread--but lately has not wanted it.
He plays peek-a-boo, loves to clap (and assumes any clapping must be for him--and joins right in), and has the most infectious laugh. He has a mischievous streak. If he thinks he is doing something he shouldn't or he thinks he has outsmarted you, he starts giggling! For example, he found a way to climb onto my bed--he thought he was so tricky! He crawled all around laughing.
He is saying a few words. His favorite word is Ball. He loves to play with balls! He sees them everywhere--balloons at the grocery store, those round balls on electric wires, a ball in a book. He loves to play catch with the ball. And he points out balls whenever he sees one--and starts bouncing because he is so excited!
Ball and Banana are the two most distinguishable words he says.
Other sounds that we have concluded are words:
He waves bye-bye and night-night
His newest trick is to growl. He sometimes will bare his two little teeth in his growling.
He likes to read books. At home he lies on the bed with Mom and reads (one of the rare moments when Joseph is still). In Missouri, Joseph has discovered Corduroy board books--he loves them! He brings a book to me when he wants to read. He laughs at certain parts everytime we read it (I haven't figured out what is so funny yet). Often we get to the end and he wants to read it again.
Joseph has continued to stay active since his birth! When he crawls, he thunders across the room. In the stroller he twists and contorts his body or at least bounces his legs the entire time. His latest is to run his fingers over the stroller wheels--while they are turning. He can wiggle out of car seat straps (and grunts and groans and doesn't give up when I tighten the straps).
He still doesn't like to sleep and wakes up multiple times a night. Life is so exciting he can't bear to miss a minute. Luckily, he takes a bottle well now so Dad and I trade off getting up with him.
He is walking now. He walks more than crawls. I have a feeling it won't be walking for long. He will be running. And we will be running to keep up with him!
He is having a great time. Aunt Hannah and Uncle Andrew chase him around as he laughs and squeals! They have also taught him to sneak up behind people and start tickling them. In this picture he is playing peek-a-boo, which is a favorite!
He is walking more than crawling now!
Here is a pre-haircut picture of Joseph playing the piano (I was blinded by wanting to keep his baby curls and not realizing how red-neck he was starting to look). He plays and starts to "sing" whenever he gets to the keyboard. He starts dancing whenever he hears music--Uncle Andrew playing the piano, the car radio or even background music on TV.
