Hoof and Mouth?

Joseph had the hand, foot, mouth virus. Daddy liked to call it "hoof and mouth." He had a hard time sleeping because of the pain of blisters in his mouth. So Joseph moved in bed with Mommy, while Daddy moved to another room for a few nights. Here we are (Mommy, Joseph and Mr. Bear). He is all better now, and we're trying very hard to get Joseph sleeping in his own bed again.

Roxanne Graduates

Roxanne's Sixth Grade Graduation. June 13, 2007

Sarah and Joseph with the proud graduate.

The night included a performance by Roxanne's band, "Not a Mango." Joseph loved the band--maybe he is rocker at heart.

Water Baby!

Our friend Emily introduced us to a new park this morning--it is a solar system, and water shoots out of the various planets! Joseph LOVED it! He squealed and clapped his hands--and got all the way in the water right away. I think he had every mother in the park commenting on how fun it was to watch his enthusiasm. If it's one thing this kid has, it is enthusiasm!
Here is Joseph squealing and yelling with joy!

Planet Earth looks like one big fun ball to Joseph.

My wet baby coming in for a hug--or a grape. Most other kids were wearing swim suits. I thought Joseph wouldn't really get in the water. Boy, was I wrong. Unlike all the other kids, Joseph also got out of the solar system and found some plain old mud to get all over himself. What a fun morning!

Chesapeake Bay

We went out to the Chesapeake Bay on Saturday, June 9, 2007

Joseph really wanted to play with all the kids on the beach. Poor Joseph--he loves other kids, but they don't always know what to do with such a little guy. Doesn't he look so lonely?

Marc saw lots of sailboats, and while he hasn't been out sailing since we moved to Virginia, this former Sailing Club Commodore hasn't lost his love of the sport.

Around the World

Our trip to Greece

And China

And Japan

Actually, it is just the National Arboretum. But it felt like we were a world away from Washington.

Washington Folk Festival

We went to Glen Echo Park in Maryland for the Washington Folk Festival. We heard storytelling, folk music performances (American Idol--you are missing out on the real talent in this country), saw earthy crafts and even danced in the family dance! It was full of hippie-types and we loved it!
Joseph and Daddy after dancing at the "family dance." We had such a fun time, but it was HOT!

The National Zoo

Friday after work, we met Aunt Rachel downtown at the zoo. Most of the animals had gone inside buildings which were closed, but Joseph seemed completely content with the birds and squirrels around the grounds. Also, his favorite was the big red ball in the hippo pool. I think he honestly thought we made the whole trip to see that ball. Our big animal viewing moment came with this bear. . . Joseph loves Aunt Rachel!

And he thought the bear was pretty cool too!

Mom is feeding Joseph some applesauce before we get on the metro. Another fun night in DC!

We are riding with the top down in Cousin Missy's convertible. Joseph (and Mommy and Daddy) loved it!

Memorial Day Celebrations

Gotta love this face!! Joseph uses it for all sorts of communication. He loves fountains--when we go downtown, the real attractions are all the fountains we can find. Here we are in front of the National Archives. We had just gone to the National Portrait Gallery.

We went to the Memorial Day Concert dress rehearsal on the Capitol lawn. There were tons of people for the dress rehearsal, but still a lot less crowded than the next night (plus we skipped the rain that accompanied the real deal).

Joseph spent most of the concert walking around making friends with other audience members. He gave them water bottles and then retrieved them. That is the Capitol building behind Marc and Joseph.
