We celebrated Kristin's birthday with a beautiful fall outing (thanks to Kristin for being our photographer).
Rachel and her apple are both picture perfect.
Joseph has been requesting apple picking ever since he heard the mention of "fall" this year. He had a great time picking and eating apples, petting the animals, and running all over the orchard. He had Aunt Rachel with him so he was in heaven.
Life at our house has gotten a bit busier with the addition of my school. But most things really stay the same. Joseph puts olives on his fingers. We check the garden. We visit the park at the end of our street. We take Saturday evening bike rides. And give Sunday morning haircuts before church.
Of course, I now try to cram in some studying during Joseph's nap and after he's asleep at night. Marc and Joseph do the Saturday errands and chores without me because I'm studying. I wake up at 4:30 am worrying about how I'm balancing it all and if my family is suffering. Our laptop power cord and my cell phone both broke during the first few weeks of school. (Luckily, Marc's parents loaned us their computer until Dell shipped us a new cord, and the new cell phone is supposed to be on its way, too). We're making adjustments as we go, but 3 weeks into the semester, I haven't thrown in the towel yet!
We're growing pumpkins! If you visit our house, Joseph is almost guaranteed to take you in the backyard to show you his pumpkin. It is surprisingly fun to notice how much a pumpkin grows from one day to the next.
On Saturday of Labor Day weekend, we hopped in the car for a day trip to the beach in Delaware. It was my first visit to "The Small Wonder" state. There was quite a bit of traffic on the way there. Then, the state park was closed because it was at capacity. We drove further north and found Broadkill Beach which was a great spot for us. Joseph was a good sport throughout the delays. When we finally parked to walk to the beach (about six hours after leaving home), Marc said, "Thanks for your patience, Joseph." The boy responded, "No problem. I wish the beach was closer to our house." Joseph made lots of friends on the beach. We also saw huge horseshoe crab shells, a live stingray and a live jelly fish.
Even though there are no pictures to prove it, trust me that I was out there in the water, too.
On the way home we stopped at a roadside barbeque stand for the best hickory smoked ribs. We ate outside at a picnic table with the cool evening breeze and setting sun. It was the perfect end to our beach day.
