6 Months

How can it be? How can my Abigail be six months old?  With Joseph, the first six months seemed an eternity; with Abigail it seems I blinked and now it is gone!

At six months, Abigail is delightful. She enjoys smiling and squealing which can be prompted by looking in the mirror or seeing Joseph. She has really taken to eating solid food (after her first initial surprise) and playing in her exersaucer. She is a content happy, social little baby--she loves to be held  and be around people. We have put her in the bouncy right in the middle of Joseph playing with friends--and she is just as happy as can be--thinking she is on the playdate, too. We all love to hold her, and just can't seem to get enough Abigail.

She chews on everything and likes to "stand up." She likes to sing and babble.  I swear, this girl has got something to say. Sometimes she is trying to talk and she thrusts her whole little body forward and makes this noise that I can only describe as a wheeze because she is trying so hard to talk.  I can't wait to hear what she has to say!  I'm not sure how we'll accomodate two incessant talkers (well, Marc might argue he's dealing with three), but I guess we'll manage!

She still sleeps terribly. I tell myself she is just so intelligent she can't bear to miss anything that is going. (I know that is not actually how it works, but when you're only getting two chunks of sleep at night--at 3 hours each--you come up with irrational ways to console yourself). No, really I think I've made peace with the fact that teaching babies to sleep is not one of my strengths as a mother.  This phase will pass, and I will miss my baby so I am just going to enjoy it while I can.

Her six month stats:  12 pounds 8 ounces, 25 inches. She has dropped to the 1st percentile in weight.  The doctor said she's not too worried since she is meeting all of her developmental milestones and seems quite proportional (not to mention darn cute), but suggested we try to plump her up by feeding her avacados!

Budding Rap Star

Tonight while Joseph was getting ready for bed, I heard him singing this song. I'd never heard it before, but he was really in to it. A full length mirror and stalling before bed offer boundless opportunities for creativity.  I asked him to sing it for the camera.  Later, he told me that it was inspired by how he thought Aunt Rachel's friend Darci's name was Tracy.

Listening to this kid, you'd think we listen to a lot of rap at our house.  We don't.  Joseph came pre-programmed in oh-so-many ways.

Big Girl Food

Abigail seemed to really be interested in solid foods. See her hand literally in the chip bag?
We made the leap to solids starting with a little rice cereal.
I think she was really hoping for the chips and salsa.
