Zoo in December

A little known secret: winter is the best time to visit the zoo!  Joseph had a half day off of school, so we headed off to his favorite destination. I'm convinced we could spend every day of his elementary school years there and learn everything he needs to know.   The lesson I learned that day:  if you are on autopilot and hop on 395, it is worth it to exit and turn around and go back to Route 50.  Going through town takes forever!!!  But we eventually made it to the zoo, and Joseph's spirits were repaired after five minutes there.

The weather was brisk, but the Amazon house was warm.  We also saw pretty active animals--the tiger roared ALOT for us.  And, even better, we basically had the place to ourselves.

The zoo has a gigantic pizza that is supposed to teach kids where our food comes from, but the most important part is that they can climb and play on it.

Joseph in an olive:

Abigail has to crawl when she plays so she got extra dirty since the surface was slightly wet and muddy in spots.
