One night I was headed off with a friend to Politics and Prose bookstore for an author's reading. Abigail met me at the front door dressed like this and said, "I'm ready to go mommy!"  I love this child.

Abigail is full of all sorts of cute sayings lately. One of my favorites is when she takes my iphone and holds it out horizontally. She says, "1-2-3" and then she says, "Cute!" and gives a little laugh. And I realize that is exactly what I do, even the little laugh after I get a shot of the kids I like.

Joseph has taught Abigail the Star Spangled Banner so they are both often found belting it out, sometimes together. Abigail seems to have given up the nap, but I have resisted giving up the nap time so I put her in her bed. One day I went up and asked her what she was doing. Instead of sleeping she was "dancing in my bed." She was having a solo dance party in the crib.

Another day she dropped a book on her toe, and said, "the book stepped on my toe."

Just yesterday at Joseph's baseball game, one of the other moms was admiring Abigail and saying how she had "piano fingers." Abigail disagreed. "No, I have singing fingers."  She isn't afraid to speak her mind. The woman also commented on how confident she is. Isn't it wonderful?  Abigail is confident, friendly, and speaks her mind. I love her spunk!

More Fun With Grandparents

Tuesday, we had a little slower day. Grandma & Grandpa went to school and had lunch with Joseph in the cafeteria, Grandpa watched Joseph play basketball with his friends, then we had dinner at Cafe Rio, a.k.a "Taco Tuesday."  Marc met us there and we all drove home in the rain. After putting the kids to bed, we watched a bit more of the Norwegian firewood documentary that Marc and my Dad were mesmerized by. And then had a fire of our own in the fireplace

On my parents' last day, the weather was rather mild and we headed to the National Zoo. Abigail especially loved it because she had Grandma and Grandpa all to herself. Joseph was in school, Marc at work, and I focusing on baby Anna. We heard a little zoo keeper presentation about the grey seal. Abigail was fascinated that they brush its teeth and put eyedrops in its eyes. I was amazed that she heard and understood--and was talking about it later.

Thanks for coming to visit us Grandma and Grandpa!

Great Falls and Beyond

Another day we went to Great Falls Park, a spot we overlook too often. It really is a wonderful place, especially with kids--lots of room to run, not too crowded, easy parking--everything most places in D.C. is not.

Marc, Grandpa, Abigail, and Joseph went on a hike when it was time for me feed Anna. Mom came back to the car to keep me company while they went exploring.

Then we headed over to Clemyjontri Park for a picnic and play time.

Grandma & Grandpa Visit

Grandma Charlotte & Grandpa Bill stayed for several days when they came for Anna's blessing. We had a great time having them here.

First stop: The National Building Museum

But the children's room was sold out for the hour we arrived, and the great hall was busy with set-up for a big event for the American Heart Association. So, we enjoyed a bit of the architecture and headed out.

We walked around China Town instead. Abigail was entranced at a shop with dozens of little cat clocks; the cat tail swings as the second hand. We all enjoyed watching a woman make dumplings and seeing the ducks hanging in the window.

Then off to the Botanic Garden where we learned that our favorite fairy houses are on display--not just at Christmas!

Then a stop at Krispy Kreme in Dupont Circle and our day was complete.

Mother's moments

In these early days, there are so many moments that I have with Anna all by myself. Sweet moments when I'm feeding her or just holding her close.

I know this time when she prefers to be in my arms to anywhere else will be gone quickly. Soon enough, she will choose to be crawling around exploring, then running on her own at the park, and doing everything "all by myself."

Most of these moments will only be in my memory. The way she crosses her little feet when she sleeps, the way her eyes smile at me while she's nursing, the way she sighs in contentment, the way she lights up with a smile.  Every once in a while I try to capture it on camera. Like nursing Anna to sleep after her baby blessing. A few photos taken one-handed with my iphone...

Anna's Blessing Day

We celebrated our dear Anna on her Blessing Day. Marc gave her a sweet blessing with her grandfathers and our bishop standing in the circle.

Anna was surrounded by friends and family who love her. She wore a beautiful, delicate, white embroidered vintage dress from Cousin Missy. She was as sweet and happy as ever during her blessing and all the festivities that followed.
Family from near and far came to celebrate Anna

Marc caught these two on camera. Abigail will spend as long as you let her "saying hi" to Anna. She says a lot more than hi, and I sometimes wonder what secrets she is telling her.

February Celebrations

Ever since our trip to New Orleans a few years ago we have loved Mardi Gras. This year, we wore our New Orleans beads to dinner and ate the traditional pancake meal. We didn't get any photos of dinner, but Marc also wore his beads to work (even on his bike ride) that day and sent me this picture from the office.

The next holiday, just a couple days later, was Valentine's Day. In the morning, Joseph asked to make some treats and have some friends over for Happy Heart Day.  I wasn't going to, but then decided to go for it. Joseph made a sign for the front door announcing our party and told me that anyone (even robbers) might come in. Luckily, Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Rachel and Aunt Elizabeth, and Martina all stopped by.  We had pretty decorations and sappy love songs, plus some Valentine treats, though I'm sorry to say I didn't get the heart shaped sugar cookies made.

The kids were going crazy dancing in excitement. Abigail somehow lost her pants--but gained a cute Valentine headband courtesy of art projects with Aunt Elizabeth.

Aliens abducted my husband and replaced him with a guy who brought me a dozen gorgeous roses.

Our Anna

Joseph snapped this shot of Anna. It may the best one we have of her yet. Isn't she so beautiful?
