Moore Family Reunion

Aunt Joanna's "Cousin's Week" grew into a full week family reunion on the Gulf Coast of Florida. We only missed Aunt Hannah and Uncle Alex who were finishing up school in Utah before their WEDDING! More on that next month...

The Florida trip was a dream come true--spending days at the beach, relaxing in a huge house with our own pool where the WHOLE family stayed together, sand castle building classes, fishing (including catching small SHARKS at night), and snorkeling!  So much fun! Don't worry, we didn't miss the Cousins Week tradition: Chick-Fil-A's Dress Like a Cow day!

We capped off the week with an epic bonfire on the beach. I love this MOORE FAMILY!!

Camping at Douthat State Park

The next stop on our road trip to Florida, was several days of camping at Douthat State Park in western Virginia.  There was fishing, hiking, boating, and swimming. The kids made besties with the family camping next to us so the kids played together all day and then as families we had campfires --with s'mores and a talent show --together at night.  One of the days there was threat of rain so we visited the C&O Railway Heritage Center. It turned out to be a fascinating place!

Frontier Culture Museum

We celebrated the 4th of July at the Frontier Culture Museum with good old fashioned pie eating contests, watermelon spitting contests, and learning about the early days of Virginia. Despite the rain, it was just a delightful day together.

Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2016

This year, our favorite Smithsonian Folklife Festival highlighted the Basque country of Spain and the Sounds of California. The kids loved exploring, playing games, learning handicrafts, watching performances, and eating artisanal gelato. The parades with the masks were a little frightening for thte girls--but in a "I just can't look away" type of way.
